WHO CAN BE A DONOR?
Healthy individuals (who have not overcome infectious hepatitis, do not suffer from a severe heart, lung, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, blood clotting disorders and other diseases), is aged 18-50 years, weights at least 50 kg, family members of patients but also others.
INITIAL EXAMINATION OF FIRST TIME DONORS
The first collection of platelets shall not take place on the day of the initial examination, rather only after it has been evaluated.

Before the initial examination, it is necessary to register at the NCI.

After the registration it is necessary to transfer to the Laboratory Hematology and Transfusiology Department. You will complete a questionnaire in this department.

PREPARATION FOR THE COLLECTION OF BLOOD PLATELETS
The day before the collection, it is recommended to eat a light diet, drink at least 0.5 l of non-alcoholic beverages in the morning and have a light breakfast (pastries, honey, fruits, vegetables), avoid dairy products, sausages and the like. We do not recommend coming after physical or mental stress. It is not appropriate to donate platelets during menstruation, or just before or after menstruation.

THE COLLECTION OF BLOOD PLATELETS
The collection in a blood cell separator takes 60-90 minutes, the platelets are renewed immediately and gained back within 72 hours. You can donate platelets up to 12 times a year. The collection is adapted so that the donor has a sufficient number of platelets after the collection. In case of necessity of donation of platelets, you will be contacted regularly.
When donating platelets, the donor cannot become infected. Only disposable material is used for collection.
AFTER THE COLLECTION OF BLOOD PLATES
We recommend compensating for your fluid loss and refreshment. We do not recommend an increased physical or mental activity for the next 12 hours after the collection. We recommend an increased caution when driving a motor vehicle, we definitely do not recommend driving a motor vehicle immediately after the blood collection.
