Chief of the Oncohematology Clinic of LFUK and NCI

 

 

In 1991 he completed his medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava. He completed specialization studies in Internal Medicine Programme and he obtained the second specialization in Clinical Oncology. In 1995 he obtained the academic degree of "CSc." with a thesis on the topic: Nephrotoxicity of aminoglycosides and amphotericin B in cancer patients. During 1991 - 1996 he worked in the sub-department of Chemotherapy of the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava. Since 1991, he has been working at the National Cancer Institute, where he started as a physician in the Clinical Hematology Department within the Internal Medicine Clinic. At the same time, during 1996 - 2007, he worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Oncology, SZU in Bratislava. From 2012 to 2015 he held the position of Deputy Director for Health Care at the National Cancer Institute. In 2014 he received the scientific-pedagogical degree of "Associate Professor" at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University. Since 2015 he has been the Chief of the Oncohematology Clinic of LFUK and NCI at the National Cancer Institute. He also participates in teaching the students at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University. He is a member of several domestic and foreign professional associations and organizations.

Chief of the II. Oncology Clinic of LFUK and NCI

 

In 2001 he completed his medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava and he was employed as a student research force at the Institute of Experimental Oncology (IEO) of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He completed specialization studies in Clinical Oncology. During 2001 - 2007 he worked as a physician at the Internal Clinic of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bratislava. After completing his doctoral studies in 2006 at the Institute of Experimental Oncology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University on the topic "Possibilities of applying probiotics in Oncology", he worked at NCI during 2007-2011 as Assistant Professor at II. Oncology Clinic of LFUK and NCI. In 2011 he received the scientific-pedagogical title of "Associate Professor" at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University and in 2017 the title "Professor" and "Doctor of Sciences". Since 2017 he has been the Chief of II. Oncology Clinic LFUK and NCI. From 2008 to 2009 he worked at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA, where he returned as visiting Associate Professor from 2014 to 2019. He also holds the position of the Head of the Translational Research Unit, in creation of which he participated. He works on several researches. In his research, he was the first to describe a new subtype of circulating tumor cells that cannot be detected by conventional methods. He is also the author of 2 international patents for the detection of circulating tumor cells. He acts as the main expert of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic for Clinical Oncology. He is a member of several scientific boards and editorial boards and he is also a member of several domestic and foreign professional societies and organizations. He participates in teaching the students at the Oncology Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University.

Chief of the Surgical Oncology Clinic of SZU and NCI 

 

In 1996 he completed his medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava, where he started his career as a secondary physician at the II. Surgical Clinic. During 2005 - 2007 he worked as a Head Physician of the Intensive Care Unit. He completed specialization studies in Surgery Programme of the 1st and 2nd degree and obtained third specialization in Gastroenteral Surgery. In 2004 he defended his dissertation in Surgery Programme. In 2009 he received the scientific-pedagogical degree of "Associate Professor" at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava. During 2007 - 2017 he was the Head of the Surgical Department of the Surgical Oncology Clinic of SZU and NCI at the National Cancer Institute where he has been the Chief since 2017. As a surgeon he specializes in pancreatic carcinoma, while introducing the latest knowledge into surgical treatment. In 2021 he was inaugurated as Professor in Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, SZU in Bratislava. He also participates in teaching the students at Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in General Surgery Programme.
